The Johnson Service Corps is pleased to welcome the addition of Barbara Day to our Board of Directors. Barbara brings a wealth of experience in education and ministry to our community. She has worked as a teacher, assistant superintendent of Chapel Hill schools, and as Professor and Chair of Curriculum and Instruction in the School of Education at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. During those later years, she received her Master of Divinity Degree from Duke University Divinity School, a Post Graduate Diploma in Anglican Studies, and a Doctor of Ministry from Virginia Theological Seminary.
Barbara is a longtime parishioner of Chapel of the Cross and serves in a variety of roles in the life of the church: Lay Eucharistic Minister, Eucharistic Visitor, Lector, member of the Global Mission Committee, Chair of Hospitality Ministry for Funeral Receptions, Leader for Morning Prayer, a charter member of the newly formed Pauli Murray Chapter of the Order of the Daughters of the King, and a recent Vestry Member. She also helped form a partnership between the Chapel of the Cross and Kwasa School near Johannesburg, South Africa. She traveled to South Africa to begin building this relationship for the Chapel of the Cross and since has led two parish pilgrimages, including private audiences with Archbishop Desmond Tutu. This partnership has thrived with clergy, vestry members, teachers and children from Kwasa visiting the Chapel of the Cross three times and parishioners visiting South Africa numerous times in addition to the pilgrimages.
Barbara has believed in the mission of JSC since its inception twenty years ago, attending a variety of JSC programs, holiday parties, and ecumenical activities during that time. She is particularly drawn to our emphasis on Servant Leadership and admires our commitment to it from the standpoint of both the knowledge acquisition and the experiential services provided. She is drawn with great joy to continue working with young adults who are exploring new options in their learning and development, while rendering valuable service within the community.
Please join us in welcoming Barbara Day to our Board of Directors!
