Our Partners at Book Harvest

February 7, 2018

Each month, Johnson Service Corps will feature one of our Partner Organizations. For January, we are excited to share information about Book Harvest provided by Community Partnerships Manager Daniele Berman.

Book Harvest provides books to children in central North Carolina and engages families and communities to promote children’s lifelong literacy and academic success. Having plenty of books at home helps children start kindergarten ready to learn, combat summer learning loss once they are in school, and identify as readers. We believe that books are a vital tool to help ALL children succeed in school and in life. Our vision is of a community where every child, regardless of family income, is growing up in a home rich with books.

Our four core programs reach children from birth through high school in the communities where they live. Through home visits and partnerships with schools, health clinics, social service agencies, and other community organizations, we are working to make sure that all children are living and learning in book-rich environments and their parents have the support they need to help their children reach their literacy goals. Our core values of choice and quantity ensure that children have the opportunity to build robust home libraries filled with books they are excited to read. Since 2011, we have provided most than 780,000 books to local children, and we anticipate giving away our millionth book before the end of 2018.
