The past five months have been a whirlwind of experiences, trips, and valuable lessons. Moving to North Carolina for the first time has given me the opportunity to immerse myself in all the unique offerings of Durham. One of my favorite places so far has definitely been Duke Gardens. There’s something truly magical about being surrounded by nature, and the Gardens offer the perfect escape. I love how the lush landscapes, serene paths, and vibrant flowers provide a peaceful, almost meditative environment. On many days, I find myself bringing my work or study materials there, the calm surroundings seem to help me focus in ways that a typical desk or library simply can’t replicate. Whether it’s under a shady tree or by the koi pond, the Gardens have become my favorite spot to reflect, recharge, and make progress on my projects.
One of the highlights of my time in North Carolina so far has been the warm welcome I received from my mentor. She introduced me to the iconic Durham Bulls baseball team, taking me to my very first game, and offering me my first taste of what Durham is all about. Shortly after, I ran my first race in downtown Durham, which not only challenged me physically but also gave me the chance to explore the area on foot. I was joined by my local cousin, which made the experience even more special, especially since it was for such a meaningful cause.
The last few months have also been consumed with studying for the LSAT, finishing applications, and crafting countless personal statements. Law school has always been my goal, and this year has given me the space to reflect on how I can use the law to make a positive impact. I’m thrilled to share that I took the LSAT in November and have already been accepted into several law schools. I’m now eagerly awaiting responses from the other schools I applied to! While the journey has been intense—balancing study, work, and volunteer commitments—I’m deeply grateful for the support from the JSC, which has kept me motivated even when things felt overwhelming. Their encouragement has been invaluable in helping me reach this point.
As a self-proclaimed coffee enthusiast always on the hunt for the perfect brew, I’ve been diving into the local coffee shop scene here in North Carolina. My current favorite spot for getting stuff done is Joe Van Gogh—the atmosphere is just right for serious focus. But when I’m in the mood to socialize and soak in some good energy, Coco Cinnamon takes the crown with its bold, colorful decor and mouthwatering churros. I cant wait to keep exploring so many of the local shops Durham has to offer!
As I look back on the whirlwind of the past five months, I’m filled with gratitude for the experiences, connections, and growth I’ve encountered here in Durham. From discovering hidden gems in the city to pushing myself through new challenges, it’s been a journey of learning and self-discovery. And while I’ve already checked off a lot of exciting milestones, I’m just getting started. I can’t wait to see what else North Carolina has in store for me—whether it’s a new coffee shop to try, another race to run, or a new lesson to learn. The adventure is far from over, and I’m thrilled to keep exploring, growing, and sharing it all with you. Until next time, thanks for following along!
