Hello everyone!
My name is Tasha Graham, one of the soon-to-be “graduating” fellows here at the Johnson Service Corps. It’s wild to think that our program year is almost up. These past 10.5 months have flown by, but the end came slowly somehow.
I came into this program with so many goals in mind. One main being getting into grad school, and another getting my license. Neither of these goals came to pass this year, and the thought of all the complications that will occur because I was not able to accomplish these goals, has been weighing heavily on my spirit these past couple of weeks.
But these are not canceled dreams, they are simply postponed.
I plan to reapply for a graduate animation program when the applications open up again and I’m going to retake my road test sometime in July.
One of the things that I learned from my JSC year is that making plans will keep you going and keep you striving for better. These goals are not the core of my journey. I learned a lot about what I value in my life during my year with JSC. From my time interning with the two non-profits, Seeds and UCAN, it was reinforced for me how important it is to have a kind and caring community in the workplace. From my housemates, it was reinforced to me how important it is to have a calm, understanding, and safe place to come home to every day. I truly learned what my values are from my time here, and I know I have the tools to find all of these essential things in the future.
I want to thank everyone in the JSC community for supporting me and the other fellows this year. As far as immediate plans, I will be staying in the JSC house until the end of July. During this next year, I’m planning to get a job to hold myself over and will be submitting my artwork to local art exhibitions. So, stay tuned for that!
If you know anyone who has an extra room available or knows anything about affordable housing in the Triangle area, please let me know.
Thank you for your time.
Tasha
