In these isolated times JSC is offering the opportunity to join with others for brief spiritual practice once a month. Last month, former JSC director Susan Gladin and servant leadership teacher Nancy Spencer introduced us to a meditation for compassion. If you weren’t able to join us, you can find the meditation and some suggested guidelines below. We’ll have a different spiritual practice when we gather together again on Tuesday, March 27 from 8-8:30PM.
Begin this meditation with a few minutes of silence to settle in your body, clear your mind, and open your heart.
Then repeat the following meditation filling in the blank on each line with yourself. You’ll repeat the words three more times replacing yourself with the name of a loved one, then a neutral person (maybe the mail carrier or some you only occasionally interact with), and then finally a person for whom you hold a resentment.
May __________ be filled with love and compassion.
May __________ be safe and secure.
May __________ be well.
May __________ be peaceful and at ease.
May __________ be happy.
End the meditation by thanking God for this perfect time of prayer – whatever arises.
