Code the Dream is a nonprofit program that has grown out of Uniting NC’s mission to foster a state and a nation in which all people, including immigrants, have the opportunity to reach their greatest potential, engage with their community, and fully contribute their talents – expanding prosperity & well being for all.
In 2015, we decided to focus our efforts on how to better expand economic prosperity for all, and began offering free web development courses and opportunities for our students to work on real-world apps for local nonprofits, businesses, and entrepreneurs. We seek to open the tech sector to those who have historically been excluded or who face educational barriers by offering an accessible pathway for students to land meaningful, well-paying jobs in the tech industry.
Code the Dream recognizes that young people from minority and immigrant backgrounds have great ideas and will play a huge part in our 21st century economy. Already immigrants are more than twice as likely to start their own business, and those businesses create over 25% of new jobs. This is why we choose to value and encourage diversity in the tech sector.
Our courses are offered on a rotating basis in both Raleigh and Durham. If you’re interested in applying for a class, getting help with an app idea, or simply want to learn more, please visit our website.
