Johnson Service Corps
Durham Nonprofit Fellowship
Johnson Service Corps is a 10.5 month program for young adults, ages 21 to 28, to live together in intentional community, explore justice work, and engage in spiritual and personal growth in Durham, NC.
Serving with JSC is an opportunity to dedicate yourself to justice work and spiritual growth. It is a time to reflect, pray, and discern your unique calling in the world, all within an intentional community and multiple circles of support.
There are four main components of a service year with JSC:
- Justice Work: Fellows serve 32 hours weekly with the non-profit partner where they are matched.
- Spiritual Practice: The JSC community welcomes people of all spiritual traditions and those who are new to exploring spirituality. Fellows adopt a daily personal practice and commit to weekly attendance with a spiritual community of their choice.
- Beloved Community Living: Fellows live together in an intentional community of 6 people. Within the household, the community shares three meals weekly and determines how to share responsibilities for all community efforts.
- Leadership Training: Fellows grow their character, moral leadership, compassion, and inner strengths. They participate in weekly trainings and workshops on a wide range of topics including, money and values, community and self service, racial equity, and creating connections across lines of difference.
Johnson Service Corps is a 501(c)3 independent non-profit organization, and an affiliate of Episcopal Service Corps, a national network of similar programs around the US.
