Abbey Blackburn
I was born and raised in the small town of Denver, North Carolina. I graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in 2020 with a B.A. in Political Science and with minors in History and Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE). I hope to one day work for an international nonprofit to empower women and girls or promote equity in education. I am a nondenominational Christian, and I am looking forward to further challenging my faith by spending a year questioning and exploring my spiritual identity. In my free time, I like to read, run, hike, play board games with friends, and watch movies. I am thrilled to be serving the community that I have called home for the past two years and developing relationships with my fellow corps members!

Matthew Crawford
Hi everyone! My name is Matthew Crawford and I am so excited for the opportunity to serve and learn with JSC in North Carolina. I am born and raised in Charlottesville, Virginia, a lifelong UVA fan, and a lifelong Episcopalian. I graduated in 2020 from the University of Mary Washington where I had the opportunity to major in Psychology and minor in Social Justice. I am passionate about social justice, behavioral health (especially in the young adult years) and am discerning a call to serve as an Episcopal Priest. I am so excited for the year ahead!

Emlyn Doolittle
Hi y'all, my name is Emlyn (it rhymes with gremlin) and I use he/him pronouns. I'm from unceded Ohlone land (the East SF Bay Area), and I graduated from Vassar College with a degree in Biology and Drama in 2020. Some of my favorite pastimes include playing outside, reading, hanging out with human and non-human animals, writing, discussing how silly gender is (spoiler: it's silly alright), making art, and teaching cats how to be Cool. This torrent of interests may or may not help explain why my professional interests mainly lie in storytelling, and particularly in stories at the convergence of gender, animal behavior, and the environment. What it definitely doesn't explain is why I currently think of my faith/spiritual identity as an amorphous blob named Stan who started out as an Episcopalian and now, when cornered and asked about his beliefs, would say that he's still Episcopalian,,,ish. That's okay. Just go with it. Stan is just as confused as you are, I promise.

Tiffany Farrell
My name is Tiffany and I use she/her/hers pronouns. I was born in Florida and raised in Waterloo, Iowa since 2005. In May I became a first generation college graduate from Iowa State University with a B.S. in biochemistry. It may be surprising that as a biochemistry major I found my way here. As my friends got elbows deep into research, which I did try, I found myself occupying my time in other ways. I ended up in social science seminars, a parenting class, and in the Network Against Human Trafficking club. After three and a half years, I became torn between something I always loved and an increasing passion for directly serving others. I enjoyed mentoring first-year students for three years, seeing them adjust and grow. It brings me joy to see people succeed. I am a lifelong Episcopalian and I have been very active in diocesan youth ministry for ten years now. I love spending my weekends with the youth and sleeping on church basement floors. I'm looking for more spiritual guidance in my life, we had an atypical college chaplain, and a period of transition from one priest to another so fellowship was the primary focus of our young adult group. I'm a loyal ISU fan, though sometimes hard, enjoy watching hockey and won't turn down the opportunity to go bowling. I took an experiential course in wine and spirits and would like to think I am a sommelier, but we got cut short at South American red wines when we transitioned to online learning. It was still interesting but not as fun online. I love my dog, Missy, and will talk about her whenever possible and took a recent interest in animal behavior like how gray squirrels store their food in many places and red squirrels in very few. I am very excited for the opportunity to come to North Carolina and see where the spirit takes me.

Lydia Gilmer
I was born and raised in Alabama. I am a graduate of Troy University where I majored in English and minored in History. Since I was young, I’ve always had a strong wanderlust. Last summer I had the opportunity to participate in a study abroad program. I traveled through London and Paris and then spent two weeks in Pietrasanta Italy, exploring museums and writing for a student made travel magazine. They became some of my favorite places in the world and I can’t’ wait to visit them again. I love music and have a knack for easily memorizing lyrics but I don’t have the best singing voice. I am an avid reader, Netflix binge-watcher, podcast listener, and board game enthusiast. I enjoy food in all forms—cooking, baking, and eating. I don’t really know what I want to dedicate my career to in my future but have always been a hopeful novelist, poet, and social advocate, especially for women’s rights and LBGTQ+ issues. This spring I was confirmed in the Episcopal Church and I am excited to continue my spiritual journey during this upcoming year with JSC.

Ben Miller
I grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey. In 2017 I earned a degree in Religious Studies with a minor in Mandarin Chinese from Montclair State University. In 2020 I earned an M.A. in theology from Virginia Theological Seminary.
I was raised nominally Christian and unchurched until a born again experience in high school. My faith formation came from non-denominational evangelical contexts until college, when exposure to the academic study of religion spurred spiritual reflection and curiosity about the diversity of Christianity and led me to the Episcopal Church, where I have been a member ever since. My dream is to be a theologian and professor, engaging difficult and necessary theological topics with my writing and inspiring students from various walks of life to think deeply and creatively about the claims of the Christian tradition in relation to their own experiences. I look forward to how Johnson Service Corps will sharpen my capacity to integrate theological aptitude and spiritual formation with advocacy for social justice in ecclesial and secular settings. I enjoy cooking, baking, cats, appreciating animation and art, engaging in a good discussion of ideas, and finding any excuse to curl up with a hot drink and a book.

Sara Richard
I was born in Manchester, New Hampshire, but my family moved to Apex, North Carolina when I was only eighteen months old (which essentially means that I was raised to root for the Red Sox, but have no clue how to handle myself when it snows). In May, I graduated from the College of William and Mary with a major in Film and Media Studies and a minor in Music. The highlight of my college experience was being a part of the William and Mary Choir, with which I went on a two-week tour in South Africa after my freshman year. My greatest passions are visual media, LGBTQ+ advocacy and culture, and vocal music, and I hope to eventually combine those passions with a career in digital media. I was raised Episcopalian, but don't currently consider myself as belonging to any one faith community or spiritual practice. During my free time, I love drawing, singing, watching movies, and making memes on Photoshop for my friends.

Corban Todd
My name is Corban Todd and I am from Collins, Mississippi. I recently graduated from Mississippi State University with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Gender Studies. After my year with JSC, I hope to pursue my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and combine my passion for both of my subject areas in a pursuit to understand the ever-evolving dynamics of gender. I was raised in the Episcopal church and spent two summers working at Camp Bratton-Green (Mississippi's Episcopal church camp). I am excited to explore other Episcopal communities in the area and hope to grow in my own faith life. My hobbies involve spending time outside, pursuing my local record shop, cooking (eating), and reading. I am most looking forward to exploring a new city with new friends and working at an impactful non-profit.
